Turkey’s opposition party triumphed in local elections across the country.

The Republican People’s Party (CHP), a center-left party, received 38% of the total vote, while the ruling Justice and Development (AK) party received 36%. The vote is seen as a rebuke to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his handling of the economy. Since his reelection as president in May, annual inflation has increased to 68.5%.
