The Digital Broadcasting Club: UB’s Newest Project

Do you have a passion for film, production, and video editing? Are you interested in joining a new club on campus? If the answer is yes, the University at Buffalo has recently launched a brand-new organization. The Digital Broadcasting Club is now accepting new members; scan the QR code to apply!

With only 3 months since the club’s formation in December 2023, the current members have already made immense progress. The Good Morning Buffalo team can be found on Instagram @ub.gmb, TikTok @ub_gmb, UBLinked, and even around campus where they might stop you to ask a few questions! Each of their social media accounts feature video content covering the latest on UB sports, news, and entertainment.

Ferdinand Babiano, President, and Eugene Huang, Vice President had a vision to offer something new and exciting to UB’s vast population, implementing modern media practices. “Good Morning Buffalo is the first ever independently-run student news show for UB. Acting as a one-stop-for-all news broadcast and interacting with the student body, our goal is to inform and entertain. For students by students.”

Realizing that UB needed a digital broadcasting channel, Ferdinand immediately started recruiting students who were excited to contribute. “As the founder of the club, I had a vision. I had this idea of a platform that could give students a voice and a creative outlet.”

As President of the Digital Broadcasting Club, Ferdinand focuses on fostering an inclusive learning environment that allows members to share ideas openly. This club ensures all students have optimum opportunities to succeed in the area of Digital Broadcasting. A multitude of majors are represented by members including English, History, Mechanical Engineering, AeroSpace Mechanical Engineering, Business, Studio Art, Media, Nursing, Computer Science, Accounting, Film Studies, and Environmental Design. The most recent club meeting was held at the Department of Media Study in the Center for the Arts building.

During the meeting I asked students to describe the club in one word, their response: collaborative, diverse, efficient, and casual. Ferdinand recognizes the demands of academics and extracurricular activities. To celebrate his team’s first-half semester success he designated the pre-spring break club meeting to a pizza party.

The process of starting a club is challenging but Ferdinand views this as an opportunity to creatively problem solve. The result of having a tight knit community is rewarding to him and outweighs the pressure of obstacles. “At the heart of our club is an open and welcoming space for all of our members to express their visions; it doesn’t matter if you’re a screenwriter, a video editor, a member of the film crew, or an anchor, everyone has an idea and what we want is to be able to put all these ideas together to create a plan for the future.”
