A Snowstorm in the MAC: Victor Snow’s Breakout Season

Any Buffalo resident would tell you that snow can come as soon as the middle of fall arrives. This year, though, the storm hit the gridiron in the form of Victor Snow.

Following a string of impressive performances, the redshirt junior wide receiver has burst into the Mid-American Conference (MAC) spotlight, helping lead the Bulls to their first 3-0 start in conference play since 2022. He played an instrumental role in the week 8 match against UMass; putting up 112 receiving yards and catching the winning pass to secure UB the inaugural Flagship Cup. Following this performance, Snow was named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll for the second time this season.

Snow’s best performance as a Bull came earlier this season at the homecoming game against Eastern Michigan. On top of producing a career-best 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns, Snow sealed the win for UB in overtime with a 9-yard rush. Off the back of this showing, he earned his first MAC Player of the Week honors.

Hailing from Webster, NY, Snow has established himself a player to watch this year. Currently averaging 74.6 receiving yards and ranked among the MAC’s top 5 receivers and sharing the lead in touchdowns. With just four games left in the regular season, he sits just over 70 yards shy of surpassing his season best in receiving yards.

But for Snow, the difference in this season isn’t just his stats, but his mindset.

“I’m a lot more confident this year,” Snow said. “I always come with a different type of fire. I play faster, I feel like I’m playing better with the guys I’m out there with. I’m confident in my team.”

The on-field mentality carries over to the team as well, especially in high-pressure plays late in the game. Having won two crucial matchups in the dying moments, Snow says staying composed and focused has been key during tight contests.

“Just keep fighting,” Snow said. “We had a lot of games last year where we needed a play to win it. We’ve been there before, so now when we have those situations, we’re a lot more comfortable.”

His journey to UB was not an easy one. Coming from an area of the nation not known for producing many football stars, he spent his high school senior season playing in California before starting his collegiate career with the Nevada Wolf Pack. But it was his time at Webster Schroeder High that helped him find himself as a player, honing his skills and transitioning away from his original position as a running back.

Despite switching positions, Snow’s past experience would carry on into his later career when he transferred to Buffalo. On top of his skills as a wide receiver, Snow has been effective on the ground when called upon; averaging 6.4 yards per carry on eight rushing attempts this season. His versatility on the field has kept him a reliable source of offense for the Bulls. “I’ve really focused on being more explosive,” Snow said.

That focus is complimented by his on-field chemistry with UB quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson, someone Snow credits as being a role model to the team. “Ta’Quan is a great leader,” Snow said. “Going back to the summer, we would work out, meet up and train, watch film, talk routes. There’s timing and connection [between us.]”

Looking ahead, Victor Snow looks to continue his run of good form and stay on top of his game.

“It feels good [to be putting up numbers], I just have to keep my confidence up and stay consistent.”
