Women’s basketball lost a heartbreaker to division rival Toledo on Wednesday, but the home game set an Alumni Arena attendance record with 4,096 fans on hand, and the game was only the team’s third loss of the season. The women’s tennis team is still undefeated after sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday. Their men’s counterparts are struggling, but the basketball team are starting to turn around a rough season with a win last week over Central Michigan, while men’s tennis came back from a two-week break with a 7-0 win over Duquesne, their first of the season.
Track and field continued piling up medals at the Penn State National Open this weekend. Brian Murphy won the pole vault, with a personal best 4.9m, the 4th-best vault in UB history. Stella Kapp and Adrianna Ellsowrth took silver and bronze in high jump, with Kapp’s 1.73m jump a personal best and UB’s 5th-best jump of all time. Luke Stoeffler took bronze in the 5000m at 14:41.42, 3 seconds short of his personal best. And Collin Stafford won bronze in the 300m with a personal best time of 8:22.61.
Swimming & Diving also dominated this weekend in a two-day road meet against Bowling Green and Toledo, beating both schools. Mia Naccarella broke two Toledo pool records — the 100y backstroke, and the 200y freestyle — while the team broke the record in the 400y medley relay. Diver Marialis Kwak finished her regular season undefeated, winning 15 straight events. Up next is the MAC Championships, which the Bulls will host at the Alumni Arena Natatorium from 2/26-3/1.
