The 17th Paralympic Games began in Paris.

Around 50,000 people watched the iconic opening ceremony at Champs-Elysées. The ceremony closed with former Paralympic champion Michaël Jérémiasz carrying the Paralympic torch to the Olympic cauldron, where it was lit by five French Paralympians. Over the next week and a half 4,400 athletes are due to compete in 22 sports.

In her first formal interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Kamala Harris promised to push for stronger border control.

In an interview with CNN, Harris vowed a tougher approach to migration along the Southern border, calling for comprehensive legislation that would tighten migration into the US. She also echoed the Biden administration’s strong support of Israel, rejecting calls from some in the Democratic Party to withhold sending weapons to Israel.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Donald Trump.

RFK Jr. initially challenged President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination, but left the Party in the fall to run as an independent. While his campaign championed anti-establishment politics and conspiracy theories, he has perhaps become better known for claiming a worm was found in his brain, dumping a dead bear in Central Park, and sawing the head off a dead whale and sticking it on top of the family car. Kennedy’s sister said his decision to endorse a Republican has disgraced the family name and betrayed the family’s values.
