President Biden withdrew from the presidential race.
Biden’s resignation came after several prominent figures in the Democratic Party called on him to step down due to concerns about his age. In an address to the nation, Biden said it is time for “new” and “younger voices” to lead. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, who raised a record-breaking $81 million in the 24 hours following Biden’s announcement.
Binyamin Netanyahu addressed a joint session of Congress.
The Israeli prime minister defended Israel’s war in Gaza and thanked Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump for their support of Israel. Thousands protested outside the Capitol, while several prominent Democrat Congressmen boycotted the speech.
Kimberly Cheatle resigned as the director of the Secret Service.
Cheatle’s resignation comes amid scrutiny of security lapses at the Pennsylvania campaign rally where Trump was shot at by an attempted assassin. Lawmakers are investigating the agency’s handling of Trump’s protection.
