Alexei Navalny, Russia’s most prominent opposition leader, died in prison.
President Biden unequivocally blamed Russia for Navalny’s death, stating, “Make no mistake, Putin is responsible.” More than 340 people were detained across Russia for paying tribute to the opposition leader, according to a rights group.
More than 70 people were killed in an Israeli raid of Rafah, a city in southern Gaza.
The US, Britain, and France have urged Israel not to carry out a full-scale invasion of Rafah over concerns of civilian deaths. Meanwhile negotiations in Cairo for a temporary ceasefire have become deadlocked.
A judge in New York ordered Donald Trump to pay $355m for misrepresenting his net worth.
The judge also barred Trump from holding senior positions in any New York corporation for three years. The former president vowed to appeal the decision.
