Israel said its soldiers were operating in the heart of Gaza city, where it believes Hamas’ underground headquarters are located.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that after the war Gaza and the West Bank should be unified under the control of the Palestinian Authority. Blinken also sought to persuade Netanyahu to agree to a humanitarian pause. According to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, more than 10,500 Palestinians have been killed in the month-long war.
Democrats triumphed in several state races this week.
Democrats took full control of the General Assembly in Virginia, while Democrat Andy Beshear was re-elected as governor of Kentucky. In addition, voters in Ohio passed a constitutional amendment to guarantee abortion access.
Russia launched its largest drone attack on Ukraine in weeks.
The attack has targeted infrastructure in Ukraine’s west and south. It also struck homes in Kharkiv and a civilian ship in Odessa. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia was ramping up its attacks ahead of the winter.
