A gunman killed 18 people and wounded 13 in Lewiston, Maine.
The man legally purchased several guns before opening fire on a bar and bowling alley Wednesday evening. The attack is the deadliest mass shooting in America this year.
Mike Johnson has been elected speaker of the House.
The Christian nationalist and Trump ally secured the position after Republicans rejected three other candidates. Johnson stated that his first priority is to start negotiating with the White House about funding bills.
Binyamin Netanyahu announced that the Israel Defense Forces entered a second phase of the war in Gaza.
Natanyahu warned of a “long and difficult” operation to “dismantle” Hamas and free hostages. Internet and phone services in Gaza have been shut down, while a third of Gaza’s hospitals have closed. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators in cities across the world protested to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
