Bulls Stampede Over Central Michigan Chippewas 37-13 To Reach First Place in MAC East
Coming off their first win of the season in Akron, the Bulls looked to bring home not only their first win in Buffalo, but a 2-0 record against MAC opponents. In a career game for safety Devin Grant, the Bulls of Buffalo stormed past the Central Michigan Chippewas, 37-13.
UB was able to get their first score not from the arm of Cole Snyder, nor from the legs of Ron Cook, but from the hands of safety Devin Grant, who had a 29 yard pick six early in the first quarter. The Bulls defense didn’t stop in the first quarter, as linebacker Red Murdock forced a fumble which contributed to an Alex McNulty 19 yard field goal to put the Bulls up 10-0.
Devin Grant would pick up another interception in the first half, while kicker Alex McNulty would kick for two more field goals. The only touchdown that the Buffalo offense would score would be courtesy of a three yard Ron Cook rushing touchdown. When the half finally came to an end, the Bulls found themselves with a commanding lead over the Central Michigan Chippewas, 23-7.
Remember the name Devin Grant? If it’s not familiar, it should be after he not only picked up his third interception of the game, but his second pick six of the game, this time for 58 yards, early in the third quarter, stretching Buffalo’s lead 30-7.
Being behind 30-7, the Chippewas desperately tried to battle back on offense, but they simply couldn’t. Throughout the entire game, Central Michigan struggled to run, averaging just a little over 3 yards per rush. Though they struggled to run, they persisted to hand it off to the running backs, most likely out of fear that another interception would occur. Their offensive nightmare and failure to convert on fourth down led Buffalo to more and more opportunities to score.
Central Michigan would find their way to the end zone once more, until the final score of 37-13 was reached. While Buffalo’s offense wasn’t the star of the show, Cole Snyder finishing the day without any touchdowns, they were good enough to coast past the Chippewas.
After an atrocious start to the season, the Bulls find themselves in a good place. Though their 2-4 record might not sound special, their 2-0 record against opponents in the MAC division puts them in first place in the MAC East. If the defense can continue to play the way they played today, and the offense can convert more on third down, the Bulls will be in a good place. The Bulls next game is at home against another MAC opponent in Bowling Green. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. EST Saturday, October 14th. Will the Bulls stay hot?
