Why is This Not a Movie?: Starlight Tours w/ Tom Murphy
For forty years, police in Saskatchewan, Canada were in the habit of arresting Indigenous men for minor offenses – or sometimes no reason at all.
Rather than bring him to jail, the captive was instead abandoned outdoors at night – taken on a “starlight tour”. Most froze to death. To this day, not one police officer has been held accountable.
Comedy writer and Saturday Night Live background player Tom Murphy joins us to tell a serious story about police abuse and the fight to bring it to light.
