Andrew Lester, the Missouri man who shot a black teen for mistakenly ringing his doorbell, is in custody.
Lester will face charges of assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. The incident occurred around the same time a 20-year old in upstate NY was shot and killed after pulling into the wrong driveway, two teenagers in Texas were shot after mistakenly entering a wrong car, and a six-year-old girl and her parents were shot by a neighbor after a basketball rolled into his yard in North Carolina.
Dominion Voting Systems settled its defamation lawsuit against Fox News for $787.5 million.
The settlement came just as opening arguments were due to begin. Dominion, a voting-technology firm, alleged that Fox defamed it by promoting the lie that Dominion’s machines helped subvert the 2020 election.
Fighting between the ruling military junta and a prominent militia has broken out across Sudan.
Sudan’s ruling military junta, led by General Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support forces, led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, have been fighting for the past week, with no end in sight. Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, has been bombed and shelled, while water and power have been cut off. Attempts at a temporary ceasefire for Eid have failed. António Guterres, the UN’s secretary-general, warned that the humanitarian situation had become “catastrophic.”
