This Week in Buffalo Sports 3/13/23

A rough end of the season for Bulls basketball, as both teams lost in the MAC Quarterfinal, with the women’s team losing a heartbreaker by one point in overtime.

At the MAC wrestling tournament, UB’s Michael Petite lost his first match, but then won his next three, finishing 4th overall in the 157-pound weight class; brother Marcus Petite lost his first and won his next two to finish 7th in the 165 class. Giuseppe Hoose went 4-2 to finish 6th in 184. And Sam Mitchell finished 3rd in the 197 class. Hoose will advance to this week’s NCAA Tournament as a #21 seed in the 184-pound bracket.

Last week also saw the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. UB’s Victoria Franz placed 3rd and Tricia Arceri placed 14th in the Women 3 Meter Championship; Franz also played 3rd in the 1 Meter; teammate Marialis Kwak placed 12th.

Women’s tennis had the week off but is ready to go back to dominating as they start another run of matches when they host Miami-Ohio on Sunday. And the Sabres are still in the NHL wild card race, but will have to run the table in the four games they play this week to keep their chances alive.
