Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau announced he would launch an independent investigation into claims of Chinese meddling in the 2019 and 2021 elections.
Reports state that China tried to help Trudeau’s Liberal Party in the recent federal elections. Trudeau contends that any attempted interference did not influence the election results, but has agreed to take the reports more seriously after increased pressure.
Cities across Ukraine were struck by a wave of Russian missiles targeting infrastructure and residential buildings.
Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, and Dnipro were all hit, all while fierce fighting continues for control of Bakhmut. President Zelensky has stated that the battle for Bakhmut and the Donbas region is Ukraine’s first priority.
Georgia’s ruling party withdrew a bill that would have required NGOs and media with funding from abroad to register as foreign agents.
The legislation sparked protests across Tbilisi, the capital. Protestestors feared that the legislation, if enacted, would limit press freedoms, undercut EU membership, and orient the country closer towards Russia.
